A little dash of theology

To those who have given encouragement and suggestions for books to read and movies to watch,
Thank you. I really can not express how wonderful it is to have this internet support group that understands and encourages me. If you've written to me, the odds are I've read it and thank you. I'll try to respond to most, but between my full school schedule (The things I put myself through), work, homework, and this blog I haven't too much time left in the day. I have added a feature so that if you wish to subscribe to my blog by email you can do so.

Within the comments of either the Reddit link or the blog I have had several people question my theology. My theology is mostly dominated by Baptist and Methodist doctrines. While these are the doctrines I have been raised with, I honestly haven't delved into each doctrine of each domination enough to say I side entirely with either. I will say this though. Often times I have been dismayed and disgusted with the apathy and general lack of knowledge christians show these days. So many people call themselves christians, but they haven't opened their Bible, and they have no idea where the ten commandments are even found. I'm not saying reading your Bible and knowing general knowledge makes you a good christian, but should we not be interested in these things? I feel like so many christian's beliefs are rooted in because that's how christians should act and not that is what Christ commands. Here are my beliefs broken down.
1. I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.
2. I believe God created the universe.
3. Salvation is required for life after death with Jesus in heaven. (Sorry Rob Bell. Interesting book though)
4. Verses in the Bible condemn homosexuality. Others seem to permit it?

I know I'm not bullet proof, and I know some might stop reading my blog today because of this. I apologize, but hey this is my journal. In a comment on my first post GAR posted this verse
"I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean." - Romans 14:14
He also posted a lot of other great verses that I'm looking into. I feel to fully understand my relationship with Christ and my occasional gaynicity I'll need to step away from all the opinions that I've been fed my entire life by the teachers and the preachers. I'll really need to focus on what the Bible says, and what the Holy spirit is telling me. To the everyday atheist or agnostic gay you might not fully understand my perspective. Feel free to google "gay is sin" and you'll understand why I am so torn inside.

On a much less somber note I returned to school today to begin my last semester. I don't hate my school, it's just...boring. Please don't write me off as every other kid that complains about school being boring. I mean it in an entirely different sense. At school I don't really get to be the part of myself that is so very suppressed. Only on a few occasions have I got to be my full gayish self. But that is a story for another time. You don't know how helpful it is to write to all of you, and how super amazing it is that I'm getting feedback and encouragement. Like my favorite youtuber Philip Defranco I'd like to leave you (the readers) with a question of the day.
Q: What are you theological views on Homosexuality?

  1. So: I totally just typed up something awesome, but I wasn't signed into google, so now I'm retyping:

I found this post on reddit, and I thought I would chime in and offer you what helped me deal with those tough Bible texts that people use to condemn homosexuality.

Your story and mine probably aren't far off. A freshmen in college, right now I'm on my winter break. During my first semester, while living at college, I realized "Holy crap, I gotta come out!"
I come from a very conservative catholic home, so telling my parents wasn't easy. I'm sure it wasn't super easy for you either.

I've been reading a lot by gay catholic theologian James Alison. I wanted to send you a pair of his talks (one on the new, one on the old Testament)

"Exploring the New Testament clobber texts" and "Dealing with the Clobber Texts".

    Praying for you!
